I went to a christian (anglican) kindergarten (me as one of the 3 kings, lol) + grew up in a hindu household + had friends who were buddhist, muslim, catholic... then I went to a fairly high-status neighborhood primary school in a well-off area tv: tamil films, sg pop culture https://t.co/p2VOlbLPu8
halfway I got into the "gifted education program", switched schools, consorted with the children of the nation's elite 1%, future technocrats underperformed by *those* standards, went to a top ~10% boy's school, met guys from a wider range of backgrounds tv: anime, MTV https://t.co/5dNhrYYpY5
became a rock musician, picked up cigarette smoking, met stoner types, narcissists, teenagers with kids. taught self marketing on myspace worked blue-collar jobs to fund our album "neighborhood" JC, no more "you are the future" talk repeated a year, borderline delinquent https://t.co/Ic0PHMrsjr
joined the army, served as support staff to elite commando unit – witnessed extremely high-functioning men. inspiring was re-assigned several times during a my storeman course, one of my coursemates (a teenage dad) was beaten into a coma over the weekend by gangsters https://t.co/uHWLQw8KZv
became a 'sociopolitical blogger', was invited to meet the prime minister, also spoke in protest against govt policies volunteered at changi prison, met old guys who have absolutely no hope in life and no reason to live also got strangers to scream for no reason https://t.co/DhIV5C5fAj
emcee-ing people's weddings and events, playing in a bar band for $$, all things that have probably shaped the way I talk to groups of people https://t.co/3XtudcDu5r
speaking to people as Mr. Software Marketing Guy, gave "ha ha! business!" lectures to university students (funny to me because none of the local universities wanted to have me as a student, but they're happy to have me lecture) also always funny to hang out at Serious Events https://t.co/gLk30QJJod
t shirt selling small business owner, an interesting life, also something that gets you lots of media attention, quite a bit of time behind cameras – being featured in documentaries, etc https://t.co/SAhGD8K6qP
through all of this, always being at the crossroads of multiple different realities, multiple subcultures, worldviews. i'm good at rationalizing, so I like to think that I'm actually really blessed to be a minority-within-a-minority with an outsider's POV https://t.co/I6Pv7WdDyj
