I think propensity to imbue IQ as an innate quality of a person is a relic of the same misguided thinking that spawned Social Darwinism. I find it easier to reason about if I view it as a form of class warfare, where access to resources + strong networks is main driving force.

As their main utility is suspect; I often wonder if these sort of IQ/SAT test barriers are less about finding good candidates, and more about creating a scarcity layer to induce a sense of loyalty and filter out those who aren't conditioned by state educational systems.

This whole thread is partially inspired by a 'like' someone gave. I looked at their stream to see what they were interested in. It turned out it was also in the same neighborhood as one of my own interests, so I decided to take that as signal such content would be trendy.
