Finally watching Alien - one of those films you accumulate all sorts of background info about even without watching it, because it has such a big role in popular culture https://t.co/agY14zCPfQ

5 minutes in and we havenāt seen anybody yet - just slowly planning around a quiet, mysterious and ominous ship - ah, people were in cryo sleep or something! Birth metaphor https://t.co/JvkmcOJzjt

Crew is arguing a bunch about money and pay, which I imagine is something pirates etc wouldāve done Ship feels like a submarine, tightly packed, industrial & dingy Shipās computer/AI literally called Mother āUmbilicus clearā when ship is docking https://t.co/bj06YaPgd5

Detecting some similarities between this and The Martian, which should be the Ridley Scott connection considering he made both films - particularly how the crew members communicate with one another, confident + smooth in their jargon. Will be interesting to rewatch Gladiator next https://t.co/Lb5Y80RTIO

Very Martian-esque, only blue instead of orange š https://t.co/kLOYsxa87o

Sigourney is so cool š Also there is a cat on the ship, they better not do anything to it https://t.co/1juNYuxwVM

Weāre reaching the 30 minute mark as the crew discovers and explores the Geiger-designed Alienscape - itās hauntingly beautiful; this mustāve been such a wild trip for the first people in the world to watch these scenes https://t.co/iBHCPfKLm4

Mm yes letās just peer into this pulsating alien egg and WHAM right in the face https://t.co/YEmuRmUi37

So this I think was an horror innovation (?) - rather than just have him die, the alien parasite-baby is literally... holding the man hostage by his face. Euch š¤¢š£ https://t.co/khT6iMbWJF

Damn, they cut a leg off of the facehugger and it spewed out some sort of ultra caustic acid that burned through two layers of the ship. Really gives you a sense of how dangerous the Alien is https://t.co/WN5ByYKSe6

Oh no itās missing, and it falls on Ripleyās shoulder š± it seems dead. Ripley wants to get rid of it but Ash the science officer wants to bring it home for tests. Ripley the most sensible person on this ship https://t.co/xzHYTIlyKK

Kaneās come to, and seems to be feeling better - so everyone has dinner... and bam, chest bursting time!!! First time watchers might really have thought he was OK https://t.co/5U5np5c1rg

This is metal as fuck really. It reminds me of how bedbugs reproduce: traumatic insemination. Oh they wrap his body up and throw it out the airlock lmao. Rest in Space, Kane https://t.co/JooCNPm6b8

So itās the 1 hr mark, midpoint of the movie, and now the goal is to find and catch the escaped baby alien. False alarm with the ship cat. I got one on my own ship too https://t.co/bXFe0EDHLo

Pretty stressful watching this guy wandering around waiting to get pwned https://t.co/76MiLVD9xe

Impressively, despite losing a second guy, the crew is still remarkably composed, regrouping and planning their next course of action https://t.co/n7AVpNWZx6

āNever ask me the odds.ā - Mother, probably https://t.co/MfuFrPR6JC

Dallas goes into the vents with a flamethrower and gets pwned too They regroup to discuss next steps again. Ripley wisely notes that since people get pwned when alone, a buddy system might be a good idea https://t.co/j8TutVhgOB

Damn, Ash the science officer has gone loco. Wtf is going on? Oh shit, heās an android?? I did not know about this. What the fuck. Their company wanted the life form, at the expense of the crew. Damn. Inside job https://t.co/yQveQ5xmYr

1h30m in and Ripley is wandering around looking for Jones the cat. Tense feeling; last guy when went looking for Jones for pwned https://t.co/u4qtAVOXQT

The buddy system, it turns out, does not work if one of the buddies panics and freezes. Parker and Lambert get pwned. Poor Ripley gets to them in time to find their bodies https://t.co/wyE2vnvsKM

She sets off the shipās self-destruction sequence and gets on a shuttle... but there are still 10 minutes left?? And we didnāt see the Alien die?? Is the Alien on the shuttle, oh no https://t.co/wONQ1A3qXZ

Oh no sheās taking off her clothes This is prime intimate striking time Ripley no https://t.co/LKEOAzUaXL

THE FACEFUCKER IS ON THE SHUTTLE https://t.co/8WsM7iJqeq

OK she managed to get herself suited up. Is the Alien... injured? https://t.co/OFYSiRwnKY

Harpooned out the airlock then toasted in the thrusters Pwned https://t.co/Db73wMF32L

And Ripley leaves a message and goes into cryosleep, roll credits Epic film! Glad I finally watched it! I can see clear influences from here to some of my favorite media: The Expanse, Mass Effect, Dead Space... https://t.co/EiX7Z52QLf

The smallest unit of creativity to me seems to be āX + Yā. Alien was pitched as āJaws in Spaceā. This could have ended up stupidly derivative and lame, but it turned out to be a rich generative concept that spawned an entire perspective. How? Why?

@visakanv I did some reserach on this, apparently its modeled after parsitic wasps. Bedbugs would have been more horrifying. https://t.co/qYXPiZvbk8
