A thing that's slightly counterintuitive about social reality, and particularly internet social reality, is that "Dunbar constraints" don't apply. You can radically change your experience by radically changing the way you behave and the people you talk with. Make alts, etc

some things like family are hard to change, unless you cut ties with them, change your name, leave town, etc – but apart from that, if you live in a city, you can ~radically~ change your entire social graph in abt a year, such that your "entire world" is 95% different than before

you can do things, for example, like start an alt anonymous twitter account, pick a city that you'd like to be in, follow everybody interesting there, make friends, and then have this whole new social circle waiting for you when you move there

there are international networks of all kinds to traverse. if you find your local node you can identify the nodes elsewhere. one of my ex-colleagues hung out with parkour folks in Paris because he does parkour in SG. another found a place to crash abroad via tango (dance) friends

as I got older, I got tired from the daily grind & commute, my sense of awe & possibility slowly narrowed. my imagination started to wither. it was a full-time effort just staying afloat& getting by. but after ~3mo's of idle time, it's dawning on me... I can change *everything*
