Finally watching Jaws. I’ve put it off forever because it just seemed so... old-fashioned? But it’s so well-made and there’s so much love put into it, it’s really drawing me in https://t.co/nhdrTl2UCm

The thing about disaster or threats or invasions etc that’s most compelling is rarely the intrusion itself, but usually our reactions to it. In Jaws - the mayor, the press, etc https://t.co/IPeXDytnY3

@callumflack Pic I took in-game: government imposes military authority and food rationing etc, but the people reject it violently because they found it corrupt and abusive. Crazier than what zombies do to us is what we do to each other when there are zombies at the gates https://t.co/CTmV30xLji

I’m really liking a lot that’s going on in this movie. The visual interest aspects are very well done, the framing, the timing, things coming and going on the screen, in the foreground and background. Masterful. You really get a sense of the atmosphere and how it turns https://t.co/vkTwGJZmft

I’m also enjoying the different archetypes - the police chief, the shark hunter, the oceanographer. Oh, now a bunch of amateur shark hunters are out to get the bounty from the grieving mum. And the press are frothing at the mouth over it, hoping to go national https://t.co/wqacqOaL6Z

Spielberg does this incredibly well: he shows you a scene, typically between two actors, and then he subtly reveals another POV, usually via a third actor. It’s this elegant, smooth way of transitioning, and it feels very organic. Your attention is drawn naturally. Film genius https://t.co/ft2MxQzQ8T

Everything moves around the chief - the characters, the room, the camera, the audience. He remains centered the whole time. You really feel how tired and burdened he is, *because of the camera work* and direction. This is all one take https://t.co/LEeLFpdEfu
